If I was Michael Phelps…

So, we’ve all heard about Michael Phelps’s crazy diet. 12000 calories a day is an amazing energy intake. Those of you know me may or may not know that I’m pretty in to both nutrition and cooking these days. Therefore I do not eat like Michael Phelps, because most days I’m sitting in an ambulance. I like to work out and run in the woods and be active when I can, but EMS work isn’t anything like the constant energy burn of bike courier-dom.

However, I LOVE food. Usually food that’s not good for me. So, if I could eat like Michael Phelps, this would most likely be my meal plan.

Breakfast

  • scrambled eggs with cheese
  • A Cinnabon (the crappy microwaved kind you get at Sunspot at Winter Park)
  • 3 cups of Irish coffee
  • a chicken fried steak
  • a plate of hash browns
  • 2 White Russians
  • biscuits
  • sausage gravy
  • a McDonalds Steak, Egg, and Cheese bagel (modified to be an everything bagel)
  • One of each kind of Whataburger taquito
  • 3 IHOP smiley face chocolate chip pancakes

or, barring the creation of that breakfast menu, Sherry of the Sherry’s Soul Food Kitchen in Deland could come cook me whatever she wanted.

Further meals to come… I’d write them down now, but I’m just getting REALLY hungry.

Oh! Herro.

So it’s obviously been a while since I’ve posted anything to this space… you’ll have to forgive me. In the last couple months I’ve moved across the country for a job, and it’s been whirlwind trying to manage all the stuff that goes with actually establishing myself in a new place. I actually had to get a Colorado driver’s license. THAT was wierd. Now I’m trying to get my car legal and tie up a lot of loose ends in my life that have been swinging for a while.

I’m starting to DJ again now that I’ll be working an EMS schedule (48 hours on, 96 hours off) and have picked up Traktor Scratch as my newest DJ software of choice. Once I get my mixer repaired, I’ll be in business. I’ll be traveling to Dallas in the next couple of weeks to DJ a charity event for Equest, a therapeutic riding center, so if you’re there, I’ll be down for the weekend. Other than that, things are good. I’m running a lot, as there are some really nice trails all over this town and I don’t see why mountain bikers should get to have all the fun.

New DJ mix will be out soon… working title is California Sun, but I’m sure I can think of something less cheesy. If you can guess the theme of the mix you win a prize.

Sick of this.

I’m starting to feel slightly trapped again. I guess that’s what you get when you’re used to running everywhere. I’m tired of hitting brick walls in trying to work as an EMT, I’m tired of just scraping by, and I’m just tired. The fact that I’ve got some sort of sinus infection allergy sore throat whatever probably doesn’t help. So I am actually sick. In other news, I put my CV online. Still going to India. Taking photos as an official FGC Gathering photographer, while still working with kids at said Gathering. Trying to figure out what the HELL I’m going to do for a place to live in three weeks or so.

I’m a drifter, a driftin’ drifter
Got no place to call my home no more
I’m a wanderer, a wandering wanderer
Got no one to call my own no more

Got no strings to tie me down
Got no cause to hang around
What difference does it make which way I go
Got an empty feelin’ down inside
Still I need to stay alive
And who can tell what waits beyond this road
I’m a drifter, a driftin’ drifter
Got no one to call my own no more

Oh dear.

Um… wow. I like Cee-Lo, a lot. In all incarnations. Solo, Dungeon Family, Outkast, and Goodie Mob. And I thought Danger Mouse was OK. But I mean DAMN. When you put them both together, something ridiculous happens. Some of my “real-life” friends may remember me trying to tell them about Gnarls Barkley a couple months before “Crazy” dropped. Not trying to build myself up, but just saying. Now I have reason to believe that they are going to top everything they’ve ever done before, except maybe “The Last Time.”

I wasn’t going to post anything for Valentine’s Day.

However, this may be the cutest thing I’ve seen in a minute or two. That plus blue sky started my day off right. It gets even better with the remixes available over at Missingtoof. Not mad at that, as we like to say. Anyway, I have a feeling I’m going to be delivering a lot of rush jobs from florists today. Guess we’ll see.

Oh, and the ferret disappeared.

Wow. That was wierd.

So I’ve been dealing with neighbors that like to climb over onto my roof deck and hang out. This includes knocking on my window while I’m sitting there in a bathrobe. That sort of thing. But I went upstairs after a workout today, and there was a ferret. It was kind of just wobbling around the deck, and it was definitely someone’s pet, because when it saw me, it tried to come inside. Which would be OK, but I don’t trust strange animals these days.

That was wierd. The weather’s been weird. Life is wierd.

a few of my favorite things

  • skiercross on TV
  • espresso ice cream
  • people releasing books for free on the internet
  • Grand Cru’s Rodelbach (beer that tastes like salad dressing)
  • working as a kourier

And now some things I’m not so much a fan of.

  • fuzzy head.
  • delays with my EMS certification
  • not skiing right now
  • termites in the ceiling
  • football being done for the season. looks like I’ll have to find another way to occupy myself on sundays.
  • not making a lot of money as a courier

That’s really all I’ve got. I saw Rambo last night, and it was surprisingly affecting. I was not particularly stoked on it, as I expected a jingoistic “Go America” action movie, and was pissed off at the promoters trying to co-opt stencil art for their ad campaign. But it’s not a particularly pro-American movie, nor does it glorify violence. It’s incredibly gory, like seeing through people’s exit wounds kind of detailed gory, but it also shows people getting freaked out by the carnage. Gave me a lot to think about. Stallone as John Rambo doesn’t particularly try to be an action hero, either, which I think is pretty classy of him.

I can’t believe I just called Sylvester Stallone classy.

Something tells me that this is what snipers do when they get bored.

Goldfrapp’s video for A&E, the most recent single. I like it very very much. Something about the combination of a pretty song and synchronized dancers in ghillie suits works for me.

My poor little freeside. Anyone who hangs out with me for more than about 10 minutes tends to find out that I’m pretty hard on my gear. Only two channels work fully on my DJ mixer (the result of a misplaced jungle juice), I destroy bicycle parts like I was getting paid, my right turntable only puts out both channels if it feels like it, and now my poor laptop’s left-hand side has a big dent in it. That’s what happens when you take a dive off the side of the couch onto a hardwood floor. After a quick disassembly and judicious application of force by mallet and pliers, everything seems OK (except for a slightly weird trackpad button) but I’m not really optimistic. If I suddenly disappear from the webernet for a few days, you’ll all know why now.

NYC was a lot of fun. Didn’t see Busta Rhymes, got lost a lot, and ate some pretty ridiculous food. Could not afford good beer. Thanks to Megan, Lee, and Steph for being stellar tour guides and gracious hosts.

start spreading the news…

I’m leaving to visit New York for the weekend, so I’m not going to be able to totally finalize all sections of the site. Which is disappointing, however I am but a student in CSS-fu. Hopefully next week, the entire site will be fully live.
If you’re looking to check out my photography, go to my Flickr page (linked at the top of the screen). some of my live video work is posted up at my vimeo account (guess where that one is). If you need to get ahold of me, I’ll have my cell, and if you’re in New York ring me up. Time to be a tourist.

Things to do in NY

  • Find Busta Rhymes, try and get him to remember me
  • Take lots of pictures of graffiti
  • Be cold
  • Warm up with whiskey
  • Lunch with rock stars
  • Totally stare at the guy acting like a robot in the subway
